“Your Faith Has Made You Well”
Luke 8:40-48 New King James Version
40 So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. 41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house, 42 for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying.
But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. 43 Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.
45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?”
When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
46 But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” 47 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.
48 And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
She Was Not Invisible
I know we all love this scripture for many different reasons, but this morning all I could think of was, “He saw her”. She was not invisible.
To the rest of the world this woman was considered unclean. Someone that they wanted to shut away and never have to deal with, someone they didn’t even want touching them. She wasn’t allowed near them and yet she crawled to the feet of Jesus because she knew that no matter what those around her said or the rules they made up, that Jesus could fix her. He knew what she had need of.
Believe
In Romans it says that if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart you will be saved. This woman absolutely believed Jesus was who He said He was.
To know that in a place so loud, so crowded He knew that someone who believed with all of their heart, even if it was out of desperation, touched Him and felt power go out of Him. I know that is a level of “seen” that we all deeply desire in our hearts.
Immediately
Something else I believe is truly worth noting is that she was healed the moment she touched Him. It wasn’t when He brought it to everyone else’s attention but when she reached out in faith and touched the hem of His garment is when the woman received her healing. God’s word says that He is no respecter of persons, meaning if He will do it for one person, He will do it for everyone, if we just believe.
Let us all have the faith this woman did, even if it’s from desperation to start with. He sees you and you don’t need validation from others to know that He does.
