Go & Do

Go & Do

Luke 10:25-37 New King James Version

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”

27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”

29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”

37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

People

As I read this passage this morning it got me thinking about the people we see everyday that are in need. We drive or walk past them trying not to make eye contact, because we just don’t know what the situation is.

It’s understandable in this day and time with all the evil it’s hard to know if it’s worth your life to try and help someone. I mean lets be honest,I don’t care how holy we like to think we are. I don’t know that offering to help a beaten and naked man lying on the street is something we would do. Sure we would call the police and let them handle it , but anything beyond that , well I don’t know.

Do You Need Attention?

That is an extreme scenario I know. What about the people we see every day? The homeless on back stoops behind businesses or walking down the street.  What about people in line at the grocery store we see putting things back. Can we help these people when there’s no one around to pat us on the back?

What if someone we don’t like needs help. Maybe no one else will help them because of how awful they are? Can we step in and help without anyone knowing?

I know that I could do better at choosing to recognize when someone needs help, and taking a step forward to do it. How about you?

During the Christmas season it seems a little easier to give. We all feel so generous, but what about the rest of the year?

Read Luke Chapter 10

**Lord, forgive me for the times I have turned away from someone in need. Whether was afraid or just didn’t know what to do. I pray for the discernment to recognize when someone is in need and listen as You show me what to do. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
