Blessings & Cursing

Blessings & Cursing

James 3:10

10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

Answered Prayers

I think it’s safe to say at this point the Lord is answering my prayer to clean my heart up and help me to be more like who He wants me to be.  I’ve been studying in James this week. Not just reading the few chapters, but really looking at it and seeing how it applies to me, to my life.  To say I am ashamed of some things would probably be an understatement.

I am thankful for a God who does not turn away from me, but runs to help me when I call.

What Is a Cursing?

Today’s scripture should hit home for a lot of us.  You see, when it says “cursing” it’s not just talking about “cuss words”, foul language. Now, that is included, but cussing isn’t all it applies to.

I watched a facebook reel a few weeks ago and the man was talking about sin. He said that if he went out smoking or drinking he knew his sin would be called out, but then he wondered why the gossip sessions in the Sunday school room, or the Bible studies never got called out.

Gossip is a curse as well.

We like to point out the obvious bad behavior, especially if it’s not something we do. We yell the Amen until our own toes get stepped on.

Talking about the failings of others, how they will never change, what we don’t like about their personalities, how they get on our nerves. The list could go on and on.  It applies to people, businesses, and government leaders.

Who’s Anointed?

I heard for a long time the scripture Psalm 105:15. Which says, “touch not mine anointed , and do my prophets no harm”. Do you know who is anointed by God? Every believer who has given their life to the Lord. Every. Single. One of us. Not just a few people in the church , all of us who are saved and living for God are anointed (1 John 2:20-27).

Why is that important? We all have flaws. We all make mistakes. If you were to read all of James ch 3 it tells you how powerful your tongue is and how it’s impossible for any man to tame it. That’s not an excuse for us to say whatever pops into our mind, but it is cause for us to be cautious of our own words, and merciful to others for their failings in that area, and not point fingers at them.

Words hurt. Opinions are not facts. All of those who are saved and believe are anointed.

James ch 3, Psalm 105:15, 1 John 2:20-27

****Lord, thank you for your correction. God I ask that you cleanse my heart of any ugliness that I may be harboring.  Put a watchman over my mouth that I might not sin against you or become a stumbling block for someone else.  Lord, I want the words of my mouth to speak only blessings, and never cursing. I know that in myself I can’t do that, but with You, with Your help I can do all things. Help me Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.*****
