What’s Right?

What’s Right?

Judges 21:25 New King James Version

25 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

Reading this scripture brings to mind another;

Isaiah 55:8-9 New King James Version

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,So are My ways higher than your ways,

And My thoughts than your thoughts.

“Right In His Own Eyes”

I came to the end of reading Judges this morning and the very last verse stood out to me. It was one that had been repeated several times throughout the book. “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes”. Each time that phrase is repeated we see that the Israelites found themselves in captivity for many years, which is where they started out in Egypt.

They would  follow God long enough for Him to get them out of said captivity and then turn right around and worship their idols again. God did come to a point where He refused to rescue them because of their repeated rejection and idol worship. It took them getting rid of the things they kept worshipping for God to step in and help them. And still, everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

Think About It

If we take a moment to let that sink in, we will find that is what the majority of people want. To do what they feel is right, no matter how it affects anyone else, no matter what our laws say or what God says. We want to do things our own way period.

Apply It

Each book of the Bible is not just filled with stories and History. Those chapters are filled with accounts that we can learn from and still apply to our lives today. There are promises and encouraging words, but there are also warnings about things that can and will happen should we choose not to follow God’s direction.

We don’t usually find God’s way easy or something we can understand, especially when it is the opposite of what we really want to do, but a choice has to be made. What will you choose?

**Lord thank You for the reminder of what my life could be like should I choose not to follow Your word and do what I think is right in my own eyes. Never let me get to a place where I think my ways are better than Yours Lord, because I know that is just not true. In Jesus name I pray, Amen**
