A Look at Ruth
Ruth 2:11-12 New King James Version
11 And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before. 12 The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”
A Look at Ruth
I started reading the book of Ruth this morning. Since reading it in the past I was pretty excited to go over it again with fresh eyes. God’s word is a living word and is new and fresh each time we read it!
Getting to chapter two the Lord made me realize something. See, we always talk about the love story between Ruth & Boaz. How she was widowed and she found a man to love, respect and take care of her. Then on a separate note we talk about her faithfulness to her mother-in-law.
Her Fruit
The thing is those two go hand in hand. Ruth was noticed by Boaz because of her faithfulness. Ruth stood by her mother-in-law, who probably would have died had Ruth not stayed with her. She left her family and everything she had ever known to be with her. Ruth was not out looking for a husband. However, the fruit she bore drew someone who would be a Godly husband.
If you want anything in this life the number one thing to do is to follow God. I realize in the world today there are a lot of opinions on how to dress, act, and they even encourage online dating.
Seek Him First
Scripture says to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33). Ruth wasn’t trying to be a good Christian to find a husband. She wasn’t taking care of her mother-in-law so others would see she did the right thing. No, Ruth felt a deep love for Naomi and wanted to remain with her. I believe she knew deep down that Naomi would not survive alone. Her heart was in the right place, a place of love, and that is what produced the fruit that Boaz saw, and what drew him to her.
If you are seeking after anything, put God first. Let Him be first in your mind and in your heart. Pleasing Him and doing His should be your top priority. He knows the desires of your heart and will give them to you. You don’t have to go looking for them.
Read the short book of Ruth and enjoy this beautiful account.
**Lord thank You for giving me Godly desires and always knowing what is best for me. Help me to remember that putting You first is all I have to do and the rest will fall into place. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.**
