What Is Pride?

What is pride?

Proverbs 13:10

10 By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom.

What Is Pride?

Lately I’ve been reading a new book about pride.  There are a lot of things that I need to work on. To tell you the truth there are a lot of things I had absolutely no idea were prideful. I knew thinking or acting like you were better than others was pride.  I also knew that not wanting anyone’s help or not wanting to ask for help was prideful.

Are You Critical?

There were a couple things mentioned in my reading this morning that stuck out to me. For instance, I knew judging others was a fruit of pride. I did not realize being critical was. I guess it would seem like being judgmental and being critical are the same thing, but they are quite different. Being critical sounds more like this, well why are you doing it that way?Why did you wear that shirt? Why do you fix your hair like that? Here this is better, do this instead.

Have you ever been around someone who sounds like that? I have. It is absolutely soul crushing. The worst part? I realized I do it too. God help me!

Offense Is Prideful

The last part I saw, and this is a big one in our world right now, pride is easily offended. We always think someone is out to get us. That they meant harm by what they said or did. I will be the first to say that a lot of people should really think before they speak.

Use Wisdom

We should all use more wisdom with every word that comes out of our mouth so we do not become a stumbling block for someone else, but we also need to believe the best in others. Chances are they didn’t mean to crush you with the words they spoke. If that happens, pray about it. If the Lord leads you to talk to that person about it then do so with much wisdom and love.

Most of us don’t intentionally hurt each other, but we are too prideful to sincerely apologize. Let us do everything in love.

Proverbs 16:18, Romans 14:13, 1 Corinthians 1:14

***Lord, thank you for helping me see the things I need to work on. Please show and correct me when I am operating in pride. I don’t want to hurt others or lead them in the wrong direction. I ask that you give me Godly, positive thoughts to think for every prideful one that enters my mind.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.***
