Who Are You Serving?

Who Are You Serving?

Luke 4:8

8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

Who Are You Serving?

I think most of us, when presented with the question “Who are you serving?” would say we are serving God. Do we really grasp what serving means though? When I think of serving I think about a waitress, or a police officer.

I even think about how I serve my family. Each one of those positions helps others. It requires sacrifice. A sacrifice of time, of energy, of the things we would otherwise want to do.

What Is serving?

Now, when you think about serving God in that aspect what does it mean? It means you sacrifice the things you would rather do. You sacrifice your time and your energy, to do what God would have you do.  I think a lot of us get caught up at this point and say we don’t know what God wants us to do.  That isn’t exactly true though.

His word says that we are to tell others about Him. We are to minister to the sick, and to the poor and needy. Going to church is a sacrifice of our time even though it is beneficial to us and an opportunity to publicly glorify God surrounded by other believers.

Serving Others Is Serving God

While working in the church is important, I think it’s more important to serve outside of your church.  Sure being with other believers is important and His word says that we should not forsake gathering together, but church is only two days a week. What are we doing the other days? Are we volunteering at shelters and rehabs? Are we giving testimony of what God has done for us? Are we telling people about Jesus in a way that makes them want to know Him?

Encourage Others

I’m so tired of hearing people tell others that they are wrong, they should be ashamed, they are filthy. Guess what??? They already know that, and you telling them is only pushing them away. Why not tell them about The Father who loves them and will forgive them for all of those things that make them feel dirty and nasty.

Who are you serving? If you are not doing what His word says to do then you are not serving God. There are no if’s, and’s, or buts. It’s simple, just like His word.

Matthew 25:40, Deuteronomy 10:12, Joshua 24:15, Deuteronomy 6:13

***Lord thank you for the reminder of what serving You truly is.  Please forgive me for allowing myself to be distracted by the things of this world and what everyone else says I should be doing.  I want to follow You and Your ways God. Show me the things You would have me do Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.***
