Which is better?
1 Samuel 15:22
22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.
Which is better? Obedience is better than sacrifice. I’ve heard that a lot over the past couple of weeks and it makes me think, am I being obedient?
Am I Making Excuses?
I think about all the things that I’m doing at church and the things I’m doing at home and wonder if I’m doing what He wants of me. When the Lord puts things on my mind, I have a choice to make. Do I do what He is asking of me, or do I find reasons why I can’t or don’t want to?
A lot of times when He puts something on our heart and we begin to make excuses. I don’t feel like doing this or I don’t have time to do that. Have you given Him any excuses lately?
Today as I was reading, I came back over a devotion about obedience and I couldn’t help but wonder and pray, Lord am I being obedient? Is there something that I’m doing You don’t want me to do, is there something I’m not doing that You do want me to do?
God Blesses Obedience
The devil is not going to have you give somebody $20. He’s not going to have you go pray or fast for a day or two for someone, but God will. Even if it wasn’t God and it was your own emotions, He will still honor and bless those actions so it’s not like you’re going to be out anything if it wasn’t God.
Are we being obedient to God? Take time in prayer and ask Him, is there something You want me to be doing?
Be Ready
You better be prepared for whatever His answer might be. His answer might be yes, I want you to teach this class, or yes, I want you to take over the nursery, yes, I want you to start volunteering in town. I want you to start praying over this group of kids.
Whatever it is you have to be ready to step out and do it. He knows if your heart is sincere about what you are praying, and He knows if it’s not.
So, you better be prepared to step up and do whatever He asks you to do if you’re going to be bold enough to pray that prayer.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2, Acts 5:29, Proverbs 19:16
** Lord, I thank You today. I thank You for your many blessings in my life. I thank You for the opportunities You have given me to serve You and to serve others. Lord, if there is anything I’m doing that You don’t want me to do, I pray and ask that You reveal it to me and help me to stop. God, if there’s something that you want me to do that I’m not doing, I ask that You show me and give me the confidence to stand up and do whatever it is. In Jesus name I pray, amen. **
