You Already Have It!
Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
You Have It All
Have you ever used the expression “I have no self-control”? I used to say it until one day the Lord reminded me that He gave me self-control. It’s just up to me to use it.
When you get saved, give your heart to the Lord and choose to live for Him, all of the fruit of the spirit are placed inside of you, but it is up to you to use them. Having these things and learning how to use them is just like learning anything else.
Be Willing to Learn
You find out what they are and how they work and then when you are placed in situations where they are needed you can put that knowledge into practice. Just like anything else it will take time to get it right. You will get knocked down and have to stand back up and try again. Always pray and ask God to help you and show you what to use and when. You can’t do it without Him. No one can.
Each time you make the choice to use self-control it will become a little easier to do the next time. Every time you recognize a situation where self-control is needed it sharpens the discernment needed that you use to see it.
That’s Life
Using self-control or any other fruit of the spirit is part of life. The more life experience you have the more knowledgeable you become, if you allow yourself to be.
