Father Forgive Them

Father Forgive Them

Luke 23:34

34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

And they divided His garments and cast lots.

Visualize

Take a moment to let this scripture settle into your spirit. Think about the circumstances surrounding it. The beatings He received. The nails into His hands and feet. Very graphic, very real stuff. The closest thing I’ve ever been to being able to visualize is watching “The Passion of The Christ”. I remember sitting in the movie theater crying and not being able to stop, and yet the men doing the actual beating thought nothing of it.

It Could Be Us

That is what the devil can do to us. No matter who we are, how spiritual we believe ourselves to be, or what positions we have been given. It could be us. To be honest the only thing that separates us from the men who put Jesus on the cross is that the blood has been applied to our lives. We are no better than they were.

No Man Is Good

Think about a regular day in your own life. Now how often do you do things you need to ask God to forgive you for? We are to take up our cross daily. We are to ask forgiveness every single day. We say things that aren’t right. We think things, do things that we know better of.

Paul said in Romans that we want to do the right thing but somehow that’s just not what we wind up doing.

Now I want you to think, if we can so easily do the wrong thing without meaning to. Offend others by accident. How easy is it for others to do the same to us?

Father Forgive Them

If those men could be in the presence of Jesus Himself and do what they did, why do we think others won’t do or say things to us that we don’t like?

If Jesus, being beaten and nailed to a cross can say “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do” why can’t we do the same?

Romans 7:15-20, Matthew 16:24-26, Mark 10:18, Matthew 22:36-40

**Lord helps me. Please forgive me for being selfish and prideful. Help me to see that I am no better than anyone else. We are all imperfect sinners who need a perfect God. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
