Help Me Lord!

Help Me Lord

Philippians 4:8 New King James Version

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Living Word!

I’ve seen and used this scripture many times. This morning however, the Lord brought it to me in a whole new light. It’s so amazing to me time and again how God reveals that His word truly is a living word!

Gossip

When we usually see this scripture, we are talking about our thoughts and how to take control over our mind from the enemy. That is the basic principle. But the ways we can do that are seemingly endless. I never thought about this scripture in the light of gossip. Sure, I’ve thought about it as it pertained to myself and the lies the enemy has told me about who I am, and whatever situation I am in, even the thoughts I think that cause my behavior, but I don’t know that I have looked at it in the area of gossip.

Questions

When we are talking, or even thinking, about a person this scripture should be our guideline to know if what we are thinking or saying is something God would be ok with. Is it true? Is it noble or pure? Is it lovely and of good report? Is it praiseworthy? If we can’t answer yes to all of those questions, then I guess the word of God has given us our answer. We should not be thinking or saying it.

We Have Control

Here’s the deal, we cannot help every single thought that falls into our mind. We can however control what we do with those thoughts once they pop in though. It will take some work, but we can, and should, purposely think good things about that person. Ask God to help you see them, and all people, the way He does. That is a very powerful and effective prayer. Could you imagine what kind of world we would be living in if even half of the people prayed that prayer and meant it?

We Are Human

I understand that we are human. We will make mistakes and give in to the not so kind thoughts sometimes. That does not make you an awful person. That does not mean that you should be shunned and put into a corner. It does mean that you have a responsibility to confess your sin and ask the Lord to not only forgive you but to help you, like we said before, see that person or situation the way He does. It will surely change your life, and your perspective.

**Lord thank You for reminding me that while some people and situations in this world get on my absolute last nerve, You still love everyone. You created every single person in Your image, and I have a responsibility as a Christian to show Your love and grace at all times. Help in the areas I am weak with this and help me to see others the way you do Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
