Itching for a fight.
2 Timothy 2:23-26
23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
Stop Arguing
Quit arguing with people about scripture and theology. Just don’t do it. Sure, we are to tell them what the Word says in hopes they want the truth. We aren’t supposed to engage in a full-blown argument. God doesn’t need us to prove a point for Him.
You can usually tell when you begin a conversation if someone genuinely wants to know the truth, or if they are just itching for a fight. Just make sure you are not the one itching for the fight.
False Teachers
We are surrounded by false teachers and manipulated scripture all of the time. The more someone “knows” the worse it is. Be careful. Know God’s word for yourself but also pray for the discernment to recognize the situation before you even start the conversation. Ask the Lord for Godly wisdom to know when the right time is to say whatever needs to be said.
If you find yourself in a position with someone who does not want to hear the truth but is wrapped up in what they “know” , bow out with kindness and humility. Pray for that person to come to know the truth of God’s word. We cannot assume the position of the Holy Ghost, and when we engage in an argument with someone bound and determined to stick with what they know and not what God’s word says, that’s exactly what we are doing.
Stay in His word. Pray for others.
Matthew 7:6, 2 Timothy 1:6-7, Romans 12:18
**Lord thank You for reminding me that You don’t need me to fight any battles for You. I ask for the spiritual discernment to recognize what the situation looks like before the conversation even starts. Lord, I also ask for Godly wisdom to know when the time is right to share what You have taught me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
