Jesus Knew
John 13:12-17
12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
Foot Washing
Foot washing is a very humbling and a very powerful experience. If you have never had the opportunity to do it or not quite sure what it means I would encourage you to study, it a little bit starting with this scripture.
Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. He knew what Judas was up to. He knew he was going to betray him and still He washed Judas’ feet with the rest of them. Verses 14 & 15 give us an instruction that we should also wash one another’s feet because He has given us the example.
His Example
What is that example? That no one is greater than anyone else. In our time now I don’t know many, if any actually, that would kneel down and wash the feet of their own Judas. But Jesus said He gave us His example, and we should follow it.
Who Is Your Judas?
Who is your Judas? Can you humble yourself to wash their feet to show that you know you are not better than them. To show love, kindness and forgiveness, no matter what they have done to you or what you know about them, could you do that with the right intentions in your heart?
I hope this scripture puts all of us in a place of reflection.
Philippians 2:3, Proverbs 11:2, Ephesians 4:2
**Lord thank You for being an example to us in what seems the most difficult of situations. Let us be humble enough to follow Your examples with pure and not prideful intentions. Lord please forgive me for the times I should have been humble enough to wash feet and didn’t. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.**
