James 1:22-25
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
Just do it.
Be Present To Hear
Just do it. Every week we go to Sunday school, both Sunday and Wednesday services. We do daily Bible studies and even watch sermons on television. All of that is good, BUT are we doing the things we are being taught?
I always ask my children what their class lessons were about. They can usually tell me. Which is good, but we can hear it ,and even remember it. If we aren’t doing it when the time comes then really it was all for nothing wasn’t it?
What does it mean to be a doer?
We know when the Word says not to lie, steal or kill we aren’t supposed to do those things. What about the things we are supposed to do? We are supposed to forgive. To help others in need, whether we think they deserve it or not, and whether we like them or not. God’s word tells us to trust Him. It tells us to cast our cares and anxieties on Him. The Bible tells us not to forsake gathering together ( going to church). It also tells us how we are supposed to love and treat one another if we call ourselves Christians.
Why Should I?
I could write so many instructions we have been given, but I really don’t think it is necessary. This scripture isn’t shouting or pointing fingers at people demanding they do this or that. Look at the very last verse, vs 25. “ But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” There you have it. Our main reason to be a doer of the word should be because we love God, and want to do good in His eyes. But if your flesh needed a little push it says you will be blessed in what you do.
It’s your Choice
God will never force us to do the things we are supposed to do. As we are with our children, we tell them, and then we have to sit back, and hope they make the right decisions.
Are you a doer this morning?
Hebrews 10:25, Malachi 3:10, John 13:34
****Thank you today Lord for the instructions in your word. Thank you for the promises you have given me, should I obey. God, I ask that you help me to be more than just a hearer of Your word, but put it into action, not just so I can receive Your blessings, but so others can see Your love and Your goodness through me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.***
