“Self-Care”

“Self-Care”

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I had so many thoughts while reading this scripture. The first thought was that love does not seek its own. Meaning love does not prioritize its own needs. Wow.

Self-Care

We live in a world that has conditioned us into believing that what we want and what we need comes before anything else. We slap that “self-care” label on it and omit what God’s word has said don’t we?

Don’t get me wrong, I believe we need to take care of ourselves. We need to make sure we get plenty of rest and eat right, things like that but it seems it has gone to the extreme lately. We no longer find time to help others or be in fellowship with God’s people because we would rather have free time for shopping or whatever else we want to do. Sometimes people need us much more than we think we need them.

Sacrifice

The things we spend our time on aren’t just for us. I don’t always want to spend a fall Friday night at a football field, but I do it because I love my son, and I know how much it means to him that we are there. That’s an easy one to sacrifice for because he is my baby.

Can we sacrifice so easily when it’s not family or close friends? Can we sit on that hour long phone call to be encouraging and supportive when we could find ten other things we would rather be doing? Can we show up for church activities to fellowship with people in the community, to encourage them to start coming to God’s house?

Love Others

Today let’s really go out and love others. Let’s sacrifice ourselves, our time and our comfort to support and encourage one another.

Philippians 2:3-4, Mark 12:30-31, Proverbs 27:17,

**Lord thank You for bringing things like this to my attention. I know You want us to love and help one another. Help me to see when I need to put myself aside and be there for someone else. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
