Watch your mouth
Psalm 19:14
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
Have you ever heard someone describe themselves, or someone else, by saying “if it comes up it comes out”? I have. I’ve even said it about myself actually. The comment is usually seen as funny. Is it though? Are we proud of what comes up and out? Are we proud when we are rude or make jokingly snide comments?
Think Before You Speak
If we took just a moment to think about the words we were about to say before we actually said them, we wouldn’t offend as many people. Sure, it’s their responsibility to not be offended, but we also have a responsibility to not become a stumbling block to another. No matter your intentions, words can hurt, so we should think about what we say before we say it.
What’s In Your Heart?
By the words of this scripture, and a few others, it’s obvious that whatever thoughts and feelings we hold inside of our heart will eventually come out of our mouth. We can live in denial of our feelings toward a certain person or situation, but it will eventually come out of our mouth.
The Lord dealt with me on that matter at the beginning of the year. So, this scripture has been, and will continue to be, my constant prayer. I want my heart clean so the words I speak will be also. With as many people as we can help with our words, we can hurt just as many if we are not careful.
Psalm 141:3, Romans 14:13, Proverbs 18:21
**Lord, thank you for reminding me over and over how powerful my words are. I ask that you keep a watchman at my lips and let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing and acceptable to You Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen, **
