What Is Worship?

What is worship?

Luke 4:8

8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’

What Is Worship?

Worship is a lifestyle. Meaning how you live your life shows just exactly what you worship. What do you spend most of your time doing and thinking about? What do most of your finances go toward? What do you talk about more than any other thing?

Whatever the answer to these questions are, is the thing, or even person, that you worship.

We tend to think worship is just that few minutes before church service starts when there is music and singing. Sometimes we might clap or lift our hands if we feel like it, but if we aren’t’ living a lifestyle of worship to God then none of that even matters. If you are doing those things while not living a lifestyle that worships God, I think it could almost be considered mockery.

What Does It Look Like?

So, what does a lifestyle of worshiping God look like? You belong to a home church that teaches the whole word of God. You show up for services and participate. You read your word and pray daily. How else can you truly worship someone if you know nothing about them or communicate with them? The words we speak. The way we treat people, are they showing a lifestyle of worship to God? You live according to His ways, not just the ones that are comfortable for you, but all of them.  I think this is the hardest one for everybody.

No one is perfect. No one!! But, striving to be like Jesus and repenting of your failings in that area daily is part of worship as well.

Things Change

Every once and a while we all have to step back and look at our lives. They are ever changing. Our schedules, our priorities, even our likes and dislikes change quite often. The one thing that should never change is that we live our lives to honor and worship God.

If you find things have gotten off track, it’s not that hard to get back on. Pray, talk to God and get things back in order. He understands and He loves you.

Matthew 22:37, Exodus 20:1-17, Galatians 5:22-23

**Lord thank You for never leaving me or forgetting about me when I tend to get off track. I want to live a lifestyle of worship for You. Lord, I want people to see my life and it draw them closer to You. I ask that You show me any places I may have gotten my priorities out of order and help me to get them back right. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
