What’s Your Why?

What’s Your Why?

Proverbs 16:2

2 All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,

But the Lord weighs the spirits.

Why?

Why do we do what we do? How often do we take the time to sit back and think why am I doing this? Why are we helping someone? Why are we serving in the places we are at church? Why are we paying our tithes? Why are we fasting? Why are we praying for a situation to turn out a certain way? I could go on and on with all the questions.

Lately the Lord has had me looking at why I do the things I do. Am I doing it to glorify Him, or am I doing it because I want to be a part of something and not miss out? Am I doing what I’m doing to help people or because I don’t think anyone else can or should do it except me?

What’s The Word Say?

God’s word says that our heart is deceitful, meaning if we follow our heart, we can make ourselves believe we are doing something for the right reasons only to find out we were mistaken, and our motives are purely selfish.

I’m Guilty

I don’t believe everyone starts out doing all things for selfish reasons. Sure, some people do, and they will have to answer for that, but I think that over time we forget why we are really doing something and get into the mindset of “if I don’t, no one else will” or “If I want it done right, I have to do it myself’.  I’m quite guilty of that at times. If you were honest, you probably are too.

What’s Your Why?

Take time today to examine your “why”, if the truthful answer isn’t to glorify God and help others then it’s time to find a prayer closet and realign your priorities.

Jeremiah 17:9, Proverbs 3:5-6, Philippians 2:3

**Lord thank You for always showing me what I need when I need it. I ask that You help me to search the true motives of my heart and realign them to be pleasing and acceptable to You Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
