It’s How You Said It
Galatians 5:13
13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
It’s Not What You Said
When I was younger, I got in trouble a lot for what would come out of my mouth. My dad would always say “it’s not what you said, it’s how you said it”. I thought about that as I read this scripture this morning.
Something I’ve learned is that the Word of God will never contradict itself. So, while we are supposed to go to others when they are wrong and correct them, warn them of what their actions are doing, the above scripture goes hand in hand with it I believe. We are to do those things in love.
Use Your Fruit
If you approach someone with your finger pointed out, a haughty attitude and a scowl on your face the only thing you will more than likely wind up accomplishing is them not wanting to hear a word you say. Correcting someone in kindness and gentleness (which are fruit of the Spirit) is absolutely possible, and from what I’ve read in God’s word, is what we are called to do.
Love
Most people who are living a life of sin already know they are. Lovingly educating them on what God’s word says, instead of pointing your finger and spouting off your opinions on their lifestyle, however, is what will help draw them in.
Love kept Jesus on the cross, not rules.
Galatians 6:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15, Ephesians 4:15, Matthew 18:15-17
**Lord thank You for Your word that reminds me that God is love and it was His love that sent His only Son to die for my sins. Help me to be more like You in teaching others what Your word says. God, I want my teaching and any corrections to be done in love exemplifying the fruit of the Spirit always. Let me never stand in a place of anger, haughtiness or judgement when trying to help someone else. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
