What Are You Asking For?

What Are You Asking For?

Luke 11:9-13 New King James Version

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 11 If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

In Awe

As we journey through the book of Luke, I can’t help but be in awe of all the things Jesus teaches. If we are willing to read with an open heart and mind, prepared to change whatever needs changing there is much there to work with.

The Truth

I have heard the above scripture preached many times. I’ve written and spoken about it myself. This morning while reading I realized that even though something inside of me (the Holy Ghost of course) knew what it meant, I would gloss over it. We tend to bend scripture to our wants sometimes even when the truth is staring you right in the face.

Look back at verse 13. “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

What We Like

We like the part that says, “for everyone who asks receives” and “to him who knocks it will be opened”. It fits with our worldly wants. What some of us fail to realize is this is talking about the gift of the Holy Spirit.

It’s not talking about money or job opportunities. This scripture isn’t talking about giving you favor everywhere you go so you can reach the top and be popular somewhere. No! It’s talking about God’s spirit living within you and everything that entails. His wisdom and knowledge. His peace & comfort. His fruit.

The Holy Spirit living inside of you is worth more than any amount of money or any opportunity in this world.

**Lord thank You for Your living word that changes me! I want to seek after You and not be distracted by the things of this world. Help me to recognize the truth. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
