Beware

Beware

Luke 12:1-3 New King James Version

Beware of Hypocrisy

12 In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. 3 Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.

It was hard to choose a simple few scriptures for today’s devotional. Truthfully I would like to have put the entire chapter in here without any input from me, but I believe the Lord led me to these few for a reason. They are quite powerful.

Show Jesus

I think it’s worth noting that it says, “He began to say to His disciples…” Meaning He wanted them to understand the importance of what He was saying. I believe this is because when you are a true follower of Jesus you have a responsibility to portray Jesus to everyone you encounter.

The Pharisees would dish out long lists of rules and nitpick everything everyone else did. However, when it came time for them to practice what they preached they did not quite live up to the challenge to say the least .

Is It Gossip?

As we move on to the next scriptures, I think they are pretty self-explanatory. Clearly, they pertain to gossip. A lot of times we whisper little things and convince ourselves that it’s not gossip for one reason or another, but I can tell you from experience that whatever you wind up saying about someone, their situation or anything you know you shouldn’t be talking about will come into the light.

Something to really take in here is if we profess to be true Christian and say we love and follow God and His ways what do those types of actions say to others about our walk with God. A lot of times we might be the only representation of God and His love that some people see. What would that do to those who are young in the Lord?

Our actions don’t just affect us. We have people, children included, watching and listening to everything we do.

Read Luke chapter 12

**Lord thank You for Your correcting words. Help me to remember that I should be a living example of Your ways. I ask that You keep a watchman over my mouth that I might not sin against You Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **

Whew! That was a good one for sure! Nothing we say or do will be in secret! It’s so easy to get “caught” up in gossip if we aren’t careful. Help me Lord!
