You Can Have Peace!

You Can Have Peace!

Philippians 4:4-7 New King James Version

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

He Tells Us How

If we were to really take a look at God’s word, we would see that when He makes promises to us, such as verse 7 “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”, He tells us exactly how to receive it.

We have step by step instructions. How can we be anxious for nothing and receive His peace that will guard our hearts and minds?

Step One

Rejoice in the Lord always. No matter what your circumstances look like, no matter how bad and devastating your situation is, God is still good. He is still faithful. If we step back from what we are facing, and look at the current blessings we are walking in instead of focusing on the one, or even few things that are wrong at the moment, it will shift our focus. We can rejoice in those things. We can rejoice knowing that God has never let us down, never left us, and always made a way where there didn’t seem to be one. That is step one.

Step Two

Next, let your gentleness be known to all men. Let’s be honest, when we are going through trying times it can sometimes be hard not to be short, snappy and downright rude to others. When we do that, not only have we possibly upset them in some way and displeased the Father by hurting one of His children, but it doesn’t feel too good to us either.

I don’t know about you, but if I even think I have been rude to someone I can’t stop thinking about it, and wind up having to apologize for how I acted. Most of the time they didn’t even receive it in the negative way I feel I put it out there, but His Spirit within me knew I was wrong and when we treat others in rude ways there is no peace within our Spirit.

Next

In the next scripture Paul tells us to be anxious for nothing. Usually when we hear that our first response is “easier said than done”, but if we have followed the scriptures before it won’ t be that hard. Once we have done those things we can go to the Lord in prayer and thank Him for who He is. We have recognized, even in the midst of our trials, we are still blessed beyond all measure. We can thank Him for never leaving us to figure things out on our own, and for bringing back to memory all the times He showed up and made a way when there didn’t seem to be one.

Invite Him In

We then present our requests to God. Yes, He knows everything you are going through, but by prayerfully sharing those circumstances with Him, and asking Him for the desires within your heart regarding them you are inviting Him into what you are going through, thus opening a door for Him to do what only He can do.

Peace Beyond Understanding

It is then, after those steps will you find yourself with His peace that surpasses all understanding that will guard your heart and mind in Him alone.

I pray you take these steps and allow yourself to experience all He has for you today.

**Lord thank You for never leaving me. Thank You for always making a way when there didn’t seem to be one. I ask that you forgive me for the times I allow myself to focus on my circumstances instead of Your goodness Lord. Remind me when I find myself becoming anxious because of life’s trials to follow the steps You have laid out in Your word that will bring me to peace and freedom in You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
