What Is Fruit of The Spirit?

What Is Fruit of The Spirit?

Matthew 7:15-20 New King James Version

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

God’s Word

God’s word warns us that in the last days many false prophets shall rise (Matthew 24:11). This scripture teaches us how to spot one. While the gift of discernment is vitally important in this situation you will also know who someone truly is by their fruit, or how they behave. People are very good these days about putting on a good show and acting the part for a short period of time but longer periods of time and difficult circumstances and opposing opinions will always reveal the truth of who one is.

What Is Fruit?

What does it mean to have fruit? Fruit refers to the fruit of the Spirit. When The Holy Spirit is living inside of a true believer, while they won’t be an absolutely perfect person their life will reflect His characteristics and that is what The Fruit of the Spirit is.

Galatians 5:22-23 New King James Version

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

These listed are what someone will have if they are a true follower of God’s word. When we are saved, we are given all of these things. They are placed inside of us, because His Spirit will dwell within us. Once received it is our responsibility to use what we have been given when the circumstances call for them.

How Do I Use Them?

Staying in constant communication with the Lord is vital to growing this fruit. The more you communicate with Him the better you will recognize His voice when He prompts you to use the fruit within you. Just like with anything the more you use these the stronger they will be in your life.

When you live a life bearing good fruit it will be much easier to discern someone who is clearly not. It will also be easier to discern when one is speaking merely words instead of anointed, God given words.

1 John 4:1, Colossians 3:12-13, Galatians 5:19-21

**Lord thank You for Your word that teaches me daily. Help me Lord to use the fruit You have placed inside of me that I might serve others, glorify you and discern lies from the truth of Your word. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
