Are you waiting?
Hebrews 3:16-19
16 For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? 19 So we see that they could not enter because of unbelief.
Just Imagine
Could you imagine God giving you a promise and then not being able to live in that promise because you complained, were disobedient, and because you were impatient?
That’s what happened to the Israelites, a lot of them! They walked around in the desert for 40 years. It was an 11-day trip, and it took them 40 years, because they were wandering around complaining.
God provided everything they needed in the most amazing ways. He gave them food that literally fell out of the sky and they complain because they were sick of eating the same thing everyday. At night he made a light to go forth so they could see where they were going, and still they complained repeatedly.
I know we would probably talk bad about the Israelites. How could they even think of going back to Egypt where they were slaves when God is literally raining provisions from the sky? But to be honest we are not much different are we?
How are you handling your waiting?
Has God given you a promise? Are you in the middle of waiting? How are you handling it? Are you jealous every time someone else gets the promise that God gave you? Do you think it’s taking too long and you’re repeatedly asking God why and you just don’t understand?
I read in a commentary this morning it said there is a temptation to embellish our problems and that really struck me. I’ll be honest the past few weeks have been kind of rough for me. Honestly the past month has been a little rough.
I’m living in the promise that God gave me. It took several years to get there and I’m sure I did not do it gracefully. There were times I had to ask God to forgive me for my unbelief. I had to ask Him to forgive me for complaining. I did all those things the Israelites did, but I think the difference lies in recognizing it and repenting for it.
Repent
When you repent you don’t just ask for forgiveness. You ask God to forgive you and then you stop doing it. He knows our hearts He knows we’re not perfect He knows the circumstances that we’ve been given, but it is our responsibility to grow up spiritually and handle it in a better way. So not only can we get the promise we have been given, but we can set a good example to those who are waiting on their promise.
Philippians 2:14-16, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Nehemiah 8:10
**Lord, I Thank You so much for this day. I thank You for Your mercy, for Your grace, for Your forgiveness. God, I thank You for the spirit of conviction that shows me when what I’m doing or saying is not right, and I thank You for the opportunity to make it right. God, I just thank You and praise You for everything. I thank You for every single promise that You’ve ever given me and even the ones I’m still waiting on. Lord, I love you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
