Mercy
Matthew 5:7
blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain Mercy
What is Mercy?
Mercy is defined as compassion or forgiveness shown towards someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.
We have the power to punish or harm every single person we interact with. When we find ourselves in a position to be offended we have a choice to make.
Are we going to use this opportunity to be kind and show Mercy, will we step back for a moment, take a deep breath, and consider that we might not be seeing the situation clearly? Even if we believe ourselves to be right in how we perceive the situation, what is the best way to respond?
Step Back
Jumping in headfirst to an offense is prideful, can cause chaos, and break apart relationships. There is a very good chance, 90% of the time, that person was not intentional and what they did or said. Even if they were, would it help or hurt to punish or harm them?
Our Words Have Power
The things we say and do wield more power than we know. Strangers are watching. Our kids, whether they’re grown or not, are watching, but more importantly, God is watching. He knows every thought and every action.
There will come a day when you will need mercy and whatever you have shown others is what you will receive
Matthew 7:12, proverbs 18:21, proverbs 19:11
**Lord, thank you for the sobering reminder that all the seeds of my actions will be sown one day please forgive me for the times I’ve not been merciful to others and help me to remember your word next time in Jesus name I pray, Amen**
