Jesus Sent Them
Matthew 14:22
22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
Read It
If you read verses 22-33 You will see that this is when “Jesus walks on water” We talk about this passage quite a bit. We reference the storm, and we point to Peter’s lack of faith. But I found it quite interesting while reading this morning that Jesus made them get into the boat.
Like most of us I’ve read this part many times, but as we know God’s Word is living and can hit us differently each time, we read it.
They were obedient to what Jesus told them to do and yet still found themselves in the midst of a storm. Have you ever found yourself in that place? You felt like you had done exactly what God said only to find yourself in a pretty serious trial.
Not Exempt
The presence of and obedience to God in our lives does not exempt us from trying circumstances. Some might even say it puts us at the front of the line.
Why? Look at Job. He was a righteous man, and God told the devil “Have you considered my servant Job?”, and then Job’s entire life fell apart.
God’s Glory
The storms we face in this life reveal God’s glory to us and to others. We don’t like them because they are uncomfortable, but if we are obedient and living within God’s will, He will be right there with us. Giving us peace, direction and protection.
While we may experience bad things, because like His word says, it rains on the just and the unjust, it can only go so far, and it won’t last forever.
Are you in a storm today? Ask yourself “What does God want me to learn?”
Seek Him through it so that He may be glorified.
After all, you don’t want to wind up like the Israelites and have your 11 day trip turn into a 40 year journey because of your complaining and unbelief.

**Lord thank You for Your living word that speaks to me every time I read it. I ask that you show me during my trials what You want me to learn and how You want me to handle it so that You may be glorified. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
