What’s Inside?
Matthew 15:11
11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
What’s Inside?
We worry about what we put into our bodies. We go on diets and cut out things we think are harmful. When we are sick, we try even harder to put good things in. If we feel it necessary, we take medications to fix what we think is wrong.
But what about what is already inside and comes out through the words we speak? Several times in the Bible, Jesus talks about the things that we say and the effect it has on us spiritually.
Uh-Oh
Think about it. How many times have you said something and immediately thought oh I didn’t mean to say that, or I shouldn’t have said that and maybe even had to apologize for it.
Maybe that was our moment of realization. Not just to ask for forgiveness, but a warning light that there is something inside of us that needs to be worked on.
Like God is saying hey you said that, so now you know it’s in your heart, and we need to see about getting it worked out of there, before it becomes a serious stumbling block or foothold for the enemy to use against you.
Healing
If you were sick in your body and instead of doing the things needed to heal it you just acted like it wasn’t happening what would happen? Sure, you might think it went away for a little while. But eventually it would show itself bigger and worse than it was before.
The condition of your heart is no different. The words you speak are a warning to what you have been holding in your heart.
What’s in your heart today?
Matthew 15:18, Luke 6:45, Psalm 19:14
**Lord, if there is anything in my heart that should not be there, I ask that you reveal it to me and help me get it worked out. I don’t want anything displeasing to you living inside of me. I pray Your spirit of conviction rests on me until I do the work, I have to do to have a clean heart before You Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
