Guard Your Mind
Psalm 19:14
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
What If?
What if we filtered every thought we had and every word we spoke through this scripture? What if we strive to have everything we say and do to be acceptable to God? I believe if we truly did that our lives would change and so would the lives of those around us.
No one is perfect. We know that. However, we are supposed to learn from our mistakes. In my studying it has become very clear that if you think about something long enough you will act on it.
If you continuously think about how, you don’t like someone and you pick apart the things they say and do in your mind, eventually you will not treat them kindly or say something unkind to them or to someone else about them. If you were to sit around and think about the past long enough about the things the Lord has delivered you from there is a chance you will be tempted to go back to it.
As A Man Thinks
That’s why the meditation of our heart is important. What we keep in there will come out. Proverbs says as a man thinks in his heart so is he. I’ve heard it said time and time again that just because you think it doesn’t mean you have sinned, but Jesus said in Matthew 5:28,
“28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
I don’t believe that only applies to looking lustfully. I think it applies to all of our thoughts. Meaning if we have thought it, we have already done it in our mind and should repent. Which brings me back around to our scripture today. It’s more than just a scripture, but a prayer asking God to help you with the things you keep in your heart and to guard your mouth.
Proverbs 23:7, Matthew 5:28, 2 Corinthians 10:5
**Lord, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight. In Jesus name I pray, Amen! **
