Be Vigilant
Matthew 5:29-30
29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
So obviously this scripture isn’t telling you to pluck out your eyes and cut off your hands!
Be Careful!
What it is saying though is to be very careful to keep yourself from sin. You don’t just wake up one day and decide to do something destructive. No, it all starts with a thought and a lot of times the thoughts we think start with a little push.
Those pushes come from things like what we see on tv. They come from song lyrics we don’t even realize we are listening to. Unwanted thoughts can also come from conversations we are included in, that we know better than to be a part of.
Do You Want Peace?
If we want to live a life of peace, a life submitted to God, then we have to be mindful of the things we allow into our mind. Whatever you watch or listen to will go into your mind, down into your heart, and be shown in your actions.
If you don’t want to cuss, don’t watch or listen to anything that has plenty of it. If you have a particular weakness don’t watch or listen to anything that emphasizes that thing.
Be Vigilant
The enemy will do any and everything he can to make sure that you don’t live the life God created you to live. Are you going to allow him to have that kind of control over you? Or will you put your foot down, and be more vigilant about the things you allow yourself to see and hear?
Philippians 4:8, Proverbs 4:23, 1 Peter 5:8
**Lord thank You for reminding me that I have the power to control what I see and watch. Help me to be more vigilant in keeping my mind pure so my thoughts and actions will be also. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
