Fear & Your Finances
2 Timothy 1:7
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
I use this scripture quite often. Mostly to remind all of us that fear does not come from God but from the enemy. I believe it’s vital to our Christian Walk, our relationship with God, to truly understand that when we are afraid, that feeling is the opposite of what God has for us.
Bondage
Debt is a form of bondage. What does that mean? It means that debt is something that the enemy can use to control our entire lives. Not only does the bondage of debt affect us but it trickles down generations. Just as wealth can be generational, so can debt and poverty.
I know if you are currently in debt, it can seem like it’s impossible to live in America today and be free from it. It seems like we will always owe for a house, a car, credit cards etc. We are told to live within our means in a place where the cost of living rises daily while the amount we bring home each week stays the same. It seems like a never-ending cycle made to keep you bound and oppressed. Truthfully? It is.
But God!
We have been conditioned in our country to believe that we “need” more than we actually do. Every ad, every commercial is made to target you. They are made to have you believe that you need whatever it is. Whether it’s a new meal at a restaurant or a new pair of jeans or shoes. We put those things on credit cards and before we know it they are maxed out and we are left wishing we only had to worry about our basic bills like water and rent. To be honest even those things like lights and water have become so costly a lot of people can’t afford them.
What Do I Do?
So, what do we do? We are living in a place that doesn’t care about anything more than money. We try so hard not to be influenced by their greed, but it seems to win more often than not.
The first thing we have to do, and it’s not easy, is to say no. We have to say no to eating out all the time. Say no buying things on credit and just accept that if we can’t afford it and we need it God will provide it. I realize in saying all of that there are people out there who are surviving on credit. The economy we live in has put us in a very difficult place and it doesn’t seem like there is any way out of it. I have the answer.
Will You Do It?
If you put God first, He will provide every, need you have and even bless you with wants sometimes.
Are you willing to trust Him and wait? Can we be content no matter our circumstances? Can we say no and wait on God for the things we need in order to come out of the debt we are in?
We are to be solely dependent on God for our needs. Can we do that?
Philippians 4:11-13, Philippians 4:19, Matthew 6:26-34
**Lord thank You for reminding me that You are in total and complete control and my only job is to follow and trust in You. I ask that You guide me in every financial decision I make and help me to trust You during difficult seasons. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
