Let’s Break the Word Down Today!
Mark 16:14-18 New King James Version
14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Let’s Do It!
As I read this scripture so many things stuck out to me and we are just going to go over all of them.
First, it is imperative to note that any direction or promises in the Bible, no matter who He is making them to at the time, they most certainly apply to us. So, when Jesus told the disciples to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”, He was also telling us to do it.
Share The Truth
As a born-again Christian we have a responsibility to share the whole truth of God’s word at every opportunity. There will be times that we may not even speak a word and the life we live; our own actions will do the talking for us. There will be other times God will give us a boldness and the opportunity to step forward and speak to others.
Baptism
The next thing I want to look at is verse 16. It says, “16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” I have always heard baptism is not necessary, that it is an outward profession of an inner change, but I’ll be honest this verse does not mince words. There doesn’t seem to be any room for confusion. He who believes and is baptized will be saved. It seems to me that those words say exactly what they mean.
The next set of scriptures carry power. When you listen to all of the noise between denominations it tends to get loud and we often forget that if we truly love God and want to follow Him and His ways, if we trust Him, we will trust the whole truth of His word.
Signs Of a True Believer
17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
These signs will follow those who believe. Period. Demons will be cast out. They will speak with new tongues. They will take up serpents ( this implies dealing with evil people and situations). Anything meant to harm them will not prosper. They will lay hands on the sick and they will recover. Plain, simple and to the point.
All Or Nothing
We cannot pick and choose the parts of the Bible we want to believe. It’s all or nothing.
What do you believe today? Do you believe That God sent His only son to die for you sins? Do you believe He died on the cross and was resurrected on the third day and that He now sits at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us?
Do you believe He has called and equipped you to go and tell the world about Him even if you don’t “feel” like you can or like you are good enough?
Do you believe the signs that are to follow those who truly believe in Him? Do those signs follow you?
** Lord thank You for the powerful reminder that I don’t need some certificate or a fancy degree to give me permission to share the full truth of Your word. Use me Lord to tell others about You! Let the signs of a true believer follow me! In Jesus name I pray, Amen!**
