Repent?

Repent?

Hebrews 6:4-6

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

What does repent mean? In the Bible to repent means to have a change of heart and mind. To turn away from sin and to turn towards God.

So Simple

I came across this scripture in my study this morning and have not stopped thinking about it since. It seems that a lot of people have a lot of opinions on its meaning. I pondered on all of the opinions I read and then it was like a light bulb went off.

I’ve always heard God’s word is so simple a child could understand it. We are the ones who complicate it. So if that is  true, and after several years of teaching children in church I whole heartedly believe it is, then we should take it for exactly what it says.

Which is if you have been saved, filled with His Holy Spirit and have back slidden there’s a chance you won’t come back into a right relationship with Him.

Nothing Is Impossible

This scripture uses the word “impossible”. We know from studying His word that nothing is impossible with God. However, I believe that our carnal mind is where the problem comes in.

Freewill

God is God and that will never change. But if you have given your heart to the Lord, it is possible, by exercising your own freewill, you could go back into a life of sin and miss heaven because of your choices.

We must give our hearts to God and live for Him continually.  Our salvation is not something we can keep with “good works” but is a posture of our heart. If our heart is where it should be we won’t want to sin.

Keep It Right

We should pray every single day for God to show us things we need to change. To ask forgiveness for our wrongs, because let’s be honest no one is perfect, we all make mistakes but it’s turning away from those things and asking God to help us not go back to them that keeps our heart in a right relationship with Him.

Ask God to search your heart today and show you if there’s anything that might need fixing. He won’t leave you to do it on your own. It’s not His will that any man should perish, but it is our choice whether we wind up in Heaven or Hell when this life is through.

1 Corinthians 10:13, Matthew 19:26, 2 Peter 3:9

**Father, I thank You for the many chances you have given me. I ask that you show me anything I am doing that is not pleasing to You Lord. Please forgive me for my sins and help me to make the right choice and not go back to them. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
