What Do You Think?
Luke 14:11 New King James Version
11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
What Is It?
According to Google, biblical humility is a heart attitude of lowliness, meekness, and submission to God, characterized by an absence of pride, selfish ambition, and self-assertion. It involves putting God and others first, recognizing one’s dependence on God, and emulating Jesus’ servant-leadership, rather than thinking poorly of oneself.
Self-reflection has been on my mind quite a bit lately. I think we should often take a look at ourselves. Look in our hearts and see just what has tried to take root when we weren’t paying attention.
Pride Is Sneaky
Allowing pride in you is much easier than we would like to think it is. Little by little it seeps in cracks we didn’t know were there. That’s why it’s important to ask the Lord to search your heart quite often, daily really, to make sure there isn’t anything in there that shouldn’t be.
Guard Against It
Serving others with joy and love and submitting yourself to God and all of His ways are the best ways to guard yourself against pride. Reminding yourself often, with each thing you do that He is the reason for it all. He is the reason you have the ability and opportunity. Without Him it could not be possible.
I’d also take it a little farther and say it would also help to remember that God can use anyone, at any time, to do anything He wants done. That thought alone should keep us humble when doing His work.
Reflect
Take some time for a little self-reflection today. We are all created in His image for a purpose. To serve and love others.
Proverbs 11:2, Colossians 3:12-13, Ephesians 4:2, 1 Peter 5:5
**Lord thank You for keeping me humble. I never want to think more highly of myself than I ought to so I may help, serve and love others the way You have called me to. In Jesus name I pray, Amen **
