Where Is Your Promise?

Where Is Your Promise?

Joshua 6:2-5

2 And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. 3 You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. 4 And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”

Take Your Medicine

When you are sick or having any other type of health problem you go to the doctor. They usually prescribe some type of medication or give you some instructions to follow so you will start to feel better within a couple of days. Most of us go home and take the medications as stated and do what we are supposed to do to get better.

If we are told by a mechanic that our car needs spark plugs or an oil change we get those things done in order for our car to run the best it can.

Simple Instructions

But what about when God tells us to do, or not to do something to receive a blessing from Him. When we don’t see quick results, we don’t usually want to comply with simple instructions. Do we trust doctors and mechanics more than we trust God?

Do we see God’s blessings and promises as less than a healing that comes from medication or basic car maintenance?

40 Years in the Waiting

The Israelites went through a 40-year journey. Moses died and the Lord instructed Joshua to have them march around the walls of Jericho and shout until the walls came down on the 7th day in order to receive what they had been promised. I’m sure some were tired and fed up. There were probably many of them who thought that idea sounded ridiculous and didn’t want to do it and if they hadn’t, who knows where they’d be today.

What are you asking God for? Have you been waiting for a promise or a healing from God and have yet to see anything happen? Has He told you to do something or stop doing something? What you’re waiting for may be on the other side of your obedience to Him and what He has said.

Read Joshua chapter 6

**Lord thank You for the reminder of how important obedience to You is no matter what it looks like to anyone else. Help me to remember, even if I can’t see what’s on the other side. You only want good things for me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **

Being obedient will get us out of our comfort zone. We have to trust Him no matter what.
