Who do you want to be?
1 Peter 5:5-11 New King James Version
Submit to God, Resist the Devil
5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for
“God resists the proud,But gives grace to the humble.”
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Who do you want to be?
Who do you want to be? That is the question that came to mind this morning. Do I want to be like someone else I know? Do I want to be like someone on TV? Or do I want to be who God has created me to be?
Most of us would say we want to be who God has created us to be. The problem is we can be easily influenced a lot of times. We allow the immaturity of others to rub off on us in quick moments only to remember that is not who we are anymore and find ourselves having to repent.
Determination
It takes hard work, determination and discipline to be spiritually mature. However, it is absolutely worth it. If you want to be spiritually mature, prayer and Bible reading should be at the top of the list. Prayer is how we talk to God and His word is how He speaks to us. We cannot grow and move forward if we are not communicating with God.
We will have to say no and step away from certain conversations. We will have to be a good example even if it means we are lonely and left out. Is it more important to be included or to grow in the Lord?
Well??
Again, I ask, who do you want to be? I want to be someone who is strong in the Lord and in a position to be used by Him. I will have to walk away from certain people and things that may not seem bad to others but are spiritually crippling for me.
Ephesians 6:10-18 New King James Version
The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
**Lord thank You for reminding me that it all matters. The things I allow myself to be a part of affect my spiritual walk with You and can be a hindrance. Please forgive me for not always choosing the right thing and I ask that You give me the discernment to know and do better the next time. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
