Let’s Talk About It- Tattoos

Let’s Talk About It- Tattoos

Leviticus 19:28 King James Version

28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.

Tattoos

I’m going to talk about something quite controversial today. Tattoos. Just hang around and hear me out and then decide for yourself how you see it.

God’s Word

As I read through Leviticus this morning I came to this scripture. I’ve always known it was there and have even read it many times before, but it struck me differently this morning. Because, while reading I asked God, do you really mean that? You don’t want us to tattoo, scar or purposely mark up our bodies? My next question to Him was similar to what most people say. Does it count because it’s in the Old Testament? The response I got was New Testament scripture given right back to me

Matthew 5:17 King James Version

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

That was it.

Personal Conviction vs God’s Word

Now I don’t come here to judge anyone. As a matter of fact I have a few tattoos myself which are very meaningful. I do however know that once I truly became saved the Lord laid a conviction on my heart to not get any more, and I haven’t. Now, I realize one persons conviction can not be placed on someone else, but God’s word never changes because of our feelings or opinions.

There is no justification to trying to manipulate His word to fit the things we want to do.

It’s All or Nothing

Do I believe it is wrong to continue getting tattoos in the Lord’s eyes? Because of these scriptures, His word, and the answer He quickly and clearly gave me when I flat out asked, yes. I do not believe it is something we as Christians who love God should be doing. If we are going to follow His word, it’s all or nothing.

Freewill

Everyone has free will and makes their own decisions. But each of us will stand before God and give an account for the things we have said and done. I would rather err on the side of caution than feed my fleshly wants to get a sort of high while doing what His word states He doesn’t want us to do.

What will you choose?

Revelation 3:15-16, Joshua 24:15, Matthew 24:35

**Lord thank You for the direction in Your word that helps me through my time here on earth. I ask that You help me to clearly understand Your word so I can properly apply it to my life. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. **
