In The Morning

In The Morning

Psalm 5 New King James Version

A Prayer for Guidance

To the Chief Musician. With flutes. A Psalm of David.

5 Give ear to my words, O Lord, Consider my meditation.

2 Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God,

For to You I will pray. 3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord;

In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.

4 For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You.

5 The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity.

6 You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;

The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;

In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.

8 Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies;

Make Your way straight before my face. 9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;

Their inward part is destruction; Their throat is an open tomb; They flatter with their tongue.

10 Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels;

Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,

For they have rebelled against You.

11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;

Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.

12 For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

What’s First?

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? I mean your mind is awake but maybe you haven’t even opened your eyes yet. What do you do? Does your mind start thinking about all the things you have to do that day? Do you start wondering what to wear or what to pack for lunch?

It’s All Important

We know that seeking God in our big decisions is important but what about our everyday lives? Talking to the Lord before we do or think anything in the morning should be the first part of our routine. We never know what our day is going to hold or who we will encounter.

Our lives can change in the blink of an eye but if we have sought God before we even try to begin our day it sets the tone for the frame of mind we will spend the rest of the day in.

Good & Bad Days

That doesn’t mean we won’t have bad or trying days, but it does mean that we will have started the day focusing on the Lord, on His ways and His words so that when things do happen, hopefully that is where our initial thoughts will go.

Seek God first each day. Before your phone, before your to-do list, talk to the one who knows what your day will hold and the only one who knows what you need.

**Lord thank You for reminding me that seeking You before anything else is the most important part of my day and sets the tone for the rest of it. I ask that You give me a determination to set that time aside just for You God. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
