18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Count Your Blessings
While reading this morning it dawned on me that the Lord has been trying to tell me something all week long. Be content with what I have and stop searching for more. I guess it seems kind of silly that I didn’t realize it was every day that He was trying to tell me, but I don’t think we are able to realize things like that until He brings it all together for us.
Something in my personal devotion stuck out to me. It said, “Count your blessings instead of listing your wants.” About the same time, I read it I looked over slightly at my kitchen tablecloth that is covered in pumpkins and leaves and automatically Thanksgiving came to mind.
A Way of Life
When November rolls around we will see post after post of how thankful everyone is and why, but Thankfulness is not a season. It’s a state of mind, a way of life. Am I thankful all year long? Am I thankful when I feel like I am in need? Am I thankful when things are falling apart? Am I thankful when groceries continuously go through the roof, but we can still eat, even if it isn’t a $100 meal from the Mexican restaurant? Are we thankful when we wear last winter’s clothes again even if we have to patch a hole or sew a button or will we be devastated because we can’t buy the newest and latest?
I want to do better. I want to look around me and be thankful for the small things that were once big things. I want to pay more attention to all the blessings of God that don’t have anything to do with those that are materialistic.

Lord thank You for making me realize the things that are right in front of me. Sometimes I get distracted and begin to want more but Lord You are all I need and anything else You will provide. Help me to keep thankfulness as a way of my life. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
