Think About It

Think About It

2 Corinthians 10:5

5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

Think about it.

Have you ever let your mind wander only to find yourself thinking about something that you don’t even want to think about?

Our thoughts have power. If you think about something long enough you will do it.

If you spend all day Sunday thinking about how you really don’t want to go to work, there is a high chance come Monday you will be throwing out some excuse/lie to stay out of work.

That could be applied to anything. If you are on a diet and you spend your time thinking about the food you can’t eat, that is what you will want.

While it doesn’t usually feel like it, we have total and complete control over all of our thoughts. We may not choose every thought that is dropped into our minds, but we have the choice to think on the bad ones or replace them with good ones.

Feelings vs Truth

The trouble comes when we have thoughts that line up with our feelings, but don’t really line up with what God’s word says. When our thoughts match our feelings, we tend to take them up and run with whatever it is without giving a second thought to what the actual right thing is to do.

We can always justify wrong behavior if it matches how we feel and what our flesh wants to do. When that happens we like to say “God told me to” so we don’t have to explain ourselves to anyone.

The only thing you need to think about is this; does what you believe God is telling you to do line up with His word? Have you stepped back, prayed and looked in the Bible for His guidance on whatever that thought is?

You Already Know

We have become so accustomed to everything being so instant that we allow our decisions to be the same way. You know deep down, even if you don’t know the scripture, you know when the thoughts you have do not line up with God’s word. His spirit will give you a knowing.

You can lie and ignore it but you will suffer the consequences of doing something that you know isn’t right for you.

You have the power to choose your thoughts. The next time you feel an urgency to say or do something that falls in line with your feelings but there’s something inside of you that says “eh maybe not” take a couple minutes to pray, get in the Word and see what God has to say.

God’s word never changes and there are no loopholes, no exceptions.

Romans 12:2, Philippians 4:8, Proverbs 4:23

**Lord, thank You for the instructions for living that You have given me in Your word. Help me to remember, anytime I am faced with thoughts that don’t feel quite right, to dig into Your word and see what You have to say about it before I make any decisions. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.**
