What’s Bothering You?

What ‘s Bothering You?

Proverbs 19:11 New King James Version

11 The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, And his glory is to overlook a transgression.

Misunderstood

I think one of the hardest things to deal with is being misunderstood. Whether it be in a particular situation or how you view something or someone the need to explain can be overwhelming.

You don’t want people to be upset with you for having a particular view so you try to help them understand it from your point of view. Which, more often than not, does not yield the results we hope it would. Some people will always have their mind set before you utter a word so it’s best just to be quiet.

They Were Wrong

Other times we may have felt like we have been done wrong in one way or another and feel the need to try and get someone else to understand how it made us feel. Talking about the situation over and over to so many people just hoping someone else sees it the same way we do so we can feel justified in our hurt or anger, or whatever emotion we are feeling.

Be Quiet

The thing is if we stop talking about it. If we stop telling everyone how we feel and what we think while looking for emotional justification it will slow it all down. The more we talk about something the more fresh it will be in our hearts and in our minds. It will eventually consume our thoughts and  the people around us will really get sick of hearing about it.

Maybe You’re Right

You might be right in what you are thinking and feeling. Maybe someone treated you badly or hurt someone you love and they are 100% wrong in what they have done and there is a possibility they will turn right around and do it again.

However, refusing to talk about it will not excuse their behavior. It will give you peace, because let’s be honest the ones you are seeking that emotional justification from could possibly be talking behind your back about what you are saying anyways. Your peace is not worth the momentary validation you get from talking to others about what someone else has done to you.

If we follow this scripture and use discretion and overlook the transgressions of others we will find peace. We will also find the time to focus on what we need to be doing.

**Lord, help me to remember that no matter what someone else does, you see and know all. Remind me to focus on You and the things You have for me to work on.  I ask for a deep understanding that some people will never see things the same way I do and that I should just fix my eyes on You and allow You to work it all out. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. **
